Virtual Author Workshop

Available to schools worldwide, these virtual sessions provide an engaging and memorable experience for pupils.

Set in the Guatemalan rainforest and inspired by genuine archaeological fieldwork, The Adventures of a Maya Archaeologist: Snakes, Scorpions, and Jungle Discoveries allows young readers to experience the excitement, challenges and discoveries of a Maya expedition for themselves.

This is a fantastic book to support the teaching and learning of the Ancient Maya! Dr Diane has used her extensive knowledge to weave factual information seamlessly amongst humorous tales of her adventures as she gets to grips with living and working in the Guatemalan rainforest. This book gives children an invaluable first-hand insight into the life and work of an archaeologist and is a great addition to any class library.

This interactive virtual visit begins with a presentation in which Dr Diane shares stories, photographs and videos from her expeditions in Guatemala, revealing how real discoveries, challenges and encounters in the rainforest inspired The Adventures of a Maya Archaeologist.

Pupils also take part in a live Q&A session where they can ask questions about the book, the writing process, rainforest adventures, archaeological discoveries and what it is really like to work as an archaeologist in the Maya world.

These sessions are always a highlight for children, giving them the exciting opportunity to meet both a real archaeologist and the author behind the adventure.

Packed with rainforest wildlife, ancient Maya discoveries, expedition adventures and opportunities for discussion, these virtual sessions inspire reading, writing, curiosity and a love of exploration. Throughout the event, pupils are encouraged to think creatively, ask questions and discover how their own interests and experiences can inspire storytelling.

Available to schools worldwide, sessions can be adapted for different age groups, curricula and time zones.
