Virtual Teacher CPD Workshop
Everything you need to teach the Maya with confidence
Created by Dr Diane, this comprehensive 90-minute training course is designed to save teachers valuable planning time while building the subject knowledge needed to teach the Maya effectively.
Whether you are new to the topic or looking to deepen your understanding, the course draws on the professional development sessions Dr Diane has delivered to educators in the UK and around the world, providing expert guidance, practical classroom ideas and ready-to-use resources.

Drawing on her archaeological research in Guatemala, Dr Diane takes teachers beyond the textbook to explore the fascinating world of the ancient Maya. You’ll gain a clear understanding of Maya society and its remarkable achievements in writing, mathematics, astronomy, calendars, architecture and art, while also discovering the truth behind many of the myths and misconceptions commonly found online.
Special attention is given to the topics that teachers often find most challenging, including Maya calendars, mathematics and hieroglyphic writing. By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to explain Maya numbers, calculate dates using the 52-year Calendar Round and answer pupils’ questions with ease.
The course is packed with practical ideas, classroom activities and curriculum-linked examples that can be adapted across a range of subjects. It is designed to save teachers valuable planning time while providing a rich and engaging foundation for teaching the Maya.
As part of the package, teachers receive a digital copy of all presentation slides, Dr Diane’s Maya Calendar Pack and access to the full Maya teacher training course for three months.
The resource may be used by any or all teachers within your school and is suitable for KS2 in the UK, Grades 2–7 in the US and Grades 3–5 in Australia.

Thank you so much for your talk, I hugely appreciated it and can’t wait to bring it to the classroom and inspire children with tales of hot chocolate and ballgames! I am really excited by the idea of being able to teach with knowledge and understanding, and loads of credit to you, it is always wonderful to hear someone speak with passion about a subject especially one as inspiring.
James Hodgson, PGCE Student, Institute of Education
I attended your workshop at the Historical Association conference and just wanted to say thank you so much for inspiring me to choose the Maya for my non-European society unit. It was great to meet someone who is so passionate about their subject and who understands what teachers need to bring the Maya to life in the classroom. It really gives me credibility in the classroom.
